There are several things that xpdf doesn't handle properly yet that
are yet useful encluding (my biggies):

  Several forms of encrypted PDF's
  Hyper-links inside a PDF document
  Sub-document handling

Consider the handling of the document at:

  http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Guides/ZCMG/ZCMG.pdf

under xpdf versus acroread. One is usuable as an online reference.
One isn't. There are better examples, but that one shows a couple
basics (and is to hand).
