I omitted that register.com had verified that we'd correctly set our
mx-record.  They're suggesting that it's our box that's dropping the
letter -- even though I receive return-refusals from dns'es that
<mail..org> is a host uknown.  

What tools of inquiry there are, if I could have at them, I would.
