At one point in the Seventies monster jazz bassist Gary Peacock (worked
with among others Miles Daves, Albert Ayler and Cecil Taylor) stopped
playing and left the music scene. The word on the jazz street was that
he felt he had taken the jazz string contrabass as far as it could be
humanly taken (probably true) and that he was in Mexico living on air.
I believed it then and I believe it still. He's back, playing again,
and teaching at the Zen Master/Buddhist Guru level.
