Talas does much the same.

The only exit is the rapidly filling crack, which looks like it won't be an
exit much longer.

And then the current seems to be slackening off slightly.  Perhaps, with
the crack almost filled, the volume of water that can rush in is reduced.
While the current is still fairly strong, it isn't unmanageable.
