"Any idea how it works?" the lizard man asks while watching the activity in
the stone.

The elfish druid smiles. "I'm afraid its operation is not my particular
area of expertise. It can only work at or near a nexus, and its powers are
like an incredibly powerful form of astral projection."

Joining them, the ranger stated, "Not much of an expert at magic
myself.  Don't know if I should use it myself. Little nervous that my
family could be in trouble. Not that there is any reason why but the
rest of my platoon are dead or scattered everywhere."

"She said this orb can do that," Ted reminds Alex, silently adding that, if
works for her, it might work for him as well. He could think of at least
two friends he had not seen in far too long.

[Jacek the Borg]
The Borg seems distrustful of the whole thing. "I will deal with such
powers when I have to. I do not see that I have to right now."

He turns around begins scanning the surroundings.

Louissa finally steps away from the orb. She is wiping tears from eyes.

"My father is fine, but very angry and worried." she says. "The king of
Poughkeepsie desires my return, and they have just received word of my
disappearance from his ambassador in New Camelot. I miss them a lot, but I
do not want to be a caged bird."

She rubs her eyes. "I saw other things too." She looks at Ted, as if
wanting to say something, but then shakes her head. "I think we should push
northward and find Ted's cure."

"Will you look?" the elf asks. "If not, we can remain or we can go, as you
