"Oh son of a bitch !  were clearing out now."
"So much for surprise." Vesper fumed most definitely keeping to the shadows but needing to help protect the men
who had risked coming up here with him. He pops off some clouds of smoke to cover the area and make it harder to
target his allies.  He looks around for the one who shot at the enemy.

One of the scouts nods, pulls out a camera and starts taking pictures.
He then raises command. "We've got an open rift here that may be doing
something to the Tree. Sending pictures. Awaiting further orders."

The pyramid is clearly channeling both energy from the nexus and from
whatever lies beyond the rift. The lack of response from the tree
makes it seem likely that the pyramid is somehow suppressing the
tree's powers or its command of the ley line. Any further
investigation is going to be very hard from this far away.

OOC: And a little more...

As Vesper and the scouts observe the situation, they don't notice Alex
coming up the hill, and they don't notice her take aim and open fire
on one of the Powerlord commanders below. They do see the shot hit.

One of the scouts turns to Vesper, his jaw slack. He immediately opens
a channel to command. "Someone has engaged the enemy. Repeat! Someone
has engaged the enemy."

He then turns back to Vesper. "Sir, we may need to vacate this position."

Even as the scout speaks, Vesper sees the Powerlord commanders below
dividing a unit; one half to take on an emboldened group of defenders
behind the makeshift wall, and another setting up an artillery piece,
looking as if they're going to aim it near their position.
