Almost sad to have to destroy after all this time but a person's life
depends on it. She carefully aims her laser rifle at it and fires a three
blast burst [Strike: 16, damage 50MD].

Alex's shot meets more resistance than she thought. An energy shield
briefly sparkles, absorbing part of the damage [20MD], but it isn't nearly
enough to block the entire shot. The bot explodes in a hail of metal,
ceramics and burning plastics. Its centuries long patrol is finally over.

Off in the distance another bot can be heard, and even further away perhaps
another. "Come," says one of the guides, "you fear these things but, but
fear them we do."

The manhole leads down to an ancient sewer with about a foot of stagnant,
foul-smelling water in the bottom of it. The three guides lead Alex quickly
and with great certainty down a number of passages, using some sort of
fat-coated torches for light.

And then they hear twin explosions far off in the distance. "Oh no!" one of
the people exclaims. "That is our destination."

Alex can hear a voice, and it sounds like Ted, just around a bend!
