[Taocow PBEM] [Alex, Vesper, Veronique and Ted] Book 3 - Chapter XVIII

With the aid of the dagger, Alex regains contact with the orb. It is
still apparently in an "awaiting instruction" mode, but it still seems
tor resist being taken control of. The dagger and Alex together
literally pick through this strange psychic artificial intelligence's
defenses, though it does fight back. At one point, Alex's companions
see Alex almost fall over, and a strange babble of syllables coming
out of her mouth.

Even as she is doing that, quite suddenly motion catches Vesper and
Veronique's eyes. Several energy weapons of some kind drop out of
concealed gun mounts in the hold, and then open fire on the two
warriors. Both try to jump for cover, but several blasts blow one of
the warrior into pieces, while the other is struck several times in
the arm before he is able to dive for cover. They can see one arm is
hanging by little more than sinews.

Then suddenly Alex opens her eyes, as a strange mechanical voice comes
either from the orb... or from her, it's hard to tell.

"The Crucible recognizes the imprisoned rune being and Alex as its
master. Awaiting further instructions..."
