Friends,
It is with great sadness that I must inform you that Chameleon is dying.
Perhaps some of you had noticed the recent discoloration in my scales.
Then again, it was probably hard to tell since chameleons are generally
expected to change color. But this time it's bad and it's for real.
The pain Chameleon feels is so great that it would be easy to end it all
here and now, but for the record I've been asked to hang on at least
through January 4. On that day, while others politic and adapt to the
structural damage and the new environment of uneasiness (out of sheer need
to survive), Chameleon will innocently ask the vulture(s) and weasel(s)
descending around us to take photos of our beloved team. Then Chameleon
will officially notify the world about my malaise. After that there is of
course much unused vacation time to enjoy--my last hurrah as it were,
before my untimely, senseless death.
Some of you will suspect "cold-blooded" murder--and rightly so. There is
absolutely no reason that the Chameleon, the spirit of SuSE, had to be
quashed in this way. Please take comfort in remembering our short-lived
but happy time together, the sheer magic and joy of our hard-working,
dedicated team which for a few brief, shining moments appeared to be
winning against all the obstacles set before us.
Please do not think that Chameleon condemns those who survive me. In
fact, Chameleon hopes that those who can are able to survive as long as
they can stand it, collect a living wage, live life on their own terms,
until our next collective incarnation.
And please do not think that I am on the edge of despair, because I am
not. Au contraire, I look forward to new beginnings. After I shed my
skin as Chameleon, I hope that Nick Moffitt might grant me a zork.net
account--perhaps muse at zork.net? I would like to retain my identity as
muse, despite the fact that Chameleon will be dead. And I pledge to you
all that I will continue the crusade as a passionate Linux Bunny (R) and
committed crackmonkey.
Until our next life together, perhaps, au revoire -
Chameleon

Not the last you've heard from me! :)
