Did you read Bill Joy's article in Wired? With nuclear weapons we're
still sort of OK, because they require rare materials to build. The
problem, according to Joy, is when information about how to build
self-replicating nanobots and similar stuff becomes widely available.

You better get rid of every kind of destructive act that can be carried
out by a small number of individuals while you're at it. (Think smart,
pissed off high school kids who can unleash a nanobot plague on the whole
planet instead of just blowing up a few pipe bombs and shooting a few
people.)
