And here's Andy's message.
I think the protest in San Francisco, apparently at the Metreon, will be
independent of this (though co-ordinated with it). If I were still at
Berkeley, I'd be putting up flyers on Sproul Plaza, but alas...
By the way, I'm no longer going to be on TV that evening. My appearance
on "The Screen Savers" has been cancelled.

Subject: [svlug] Stop the MPAA! How you can help the DVD-CSS case...
A quick introduction... my name is Andrew Bunner. I'm Defendant #2 in the
DVD CSS case. I probably met some of you at the hearings.
By now, most of you have read that the MPAA has indicted a 16-year old in
Norway for posting code that allows you to decrypt a DVD. You also have
read that most of the internet has been sued by the MPAA and/or the DVD CCA
in an effort to stop the spread of this code.
If you've missed any of it, here's a quick primer on the issues...
http://www.fool.com/portfolios/rulemaker/2000/rulemaker000127.htm
Jack Valenti, CEO of the MPAA, wants to make it a crime to reverse engineer
software technology. Linux users, open source advocates, freedom fighters
and movie consumers should care a lot about this case.
We are trying to raise public awareness of this case and its profound
implications. 2600.com has prepared a flyer
(http://www.2600.com/news/2000/0130.html#more_info) outlining the facts of
the case... specifically, why we're right and they're wrong.
We are printing hundreds of copies of this flyer and we will be handing
these out at area movie theaters. We want you to come help.
I will be at the Century Cinema at Shoreline in Mountain View this Friday
(tomorrow) at 7pm. The theater is at 1500 North Shoreline Blvd.
I'm hoping there's enough empathy on this list to also stage protests at
other theaters--perhaps in Berkeley, San Fancisco and San Jose.
Can anyone suggest locations? Theaters close to public transportation are
best because they will maximize attendance.
What to bring:
Posters
Signs
...and don't forget to wear your DVD t-shirt :-)
http://copyleft.net/
The message on posters, etc. is simple: Jack Valenti and the MPAA want to
tell you when and where you can watch your movies. We think that's wrong.
We don't need to be inflammatory.
Please forward this to other individuals you think would be interested in
attending.
