No, I complained to the sender's ISP.
I think _that's_ altruistic, too, complaining about spam. I used to
do it whenever possible, but especially now with wrist injuries, I
don't complain as much. I think I've gotten dozens of accounts
cancelled.
The biggest single benefit is in making spam a less cost-effective
means of commercial advertising. Since many hosting services will
cancel pages which are advertised by spam (so the MPAA should just
have hired spammers to promote mmadb.no, lemuria.org, and
nanocrew.net!), you can dramatically reduce the number of page views
which actually result from a single spam. And you can help get users
used to the idea that clicking links in unsolicited advertisements is
likely to produce a 404.
