Obviously something has been elided from my medical records.  How the
*hell* is that funny?

That's funnier than the goddamn so-called "funny" punchline.
One joke I love: A skeleton walks into a bar.  The barman looks up and
says, ``What can I get you?''  ``A pint of beer and a mop, please.''
Better again: A horse walks into a bar and goes up to the barman, who
is polishing a glass slowly and deliberately.  The barman looks up and
notices the horse.  ``Hey,'' he says, ``why the long face?''
