Wonderful letter to the London Times
(no, I don't read it, but one of my correspondants does):

       Spies in a flap

    From Dr Alan M. Calverd

Sir, I was intrigued to read (report, September 13) about a 100g
flapping- wing spy plane that will "fly quietly through a
    building".

After more than 100 million years' research and development (and
the destruction of countless prototypes) a 0.5g wasp still
commands instant attention and cannot fly through a closed door.

At twice the size and ten times the wing loading of a dragonfly,
the proposed vehicle lacks some credibility in a covert or
    counter-terrorist role.

    Yours faithfully,

    ALAN M. CALVERD,
