So I've seen a number of jokes on Adobe's name posted here, but I
realized that many people, especially those not in the US, don't know
where they got it.
In the Southern parts of the SouthWestern US desert lands (and in
parts of Mexico), the natives build their houses from clay and mud.
This mixture, which is baked in the hot desert sun to dry, is called
adobe. Most adobe buildings are made from bricks that have been
sun-baked separately.
