Another thought, what about organising a mass IT industry strike - get
whole IT departments, academics, development groups and professional
services people to stage a walk out for a day?  Not actually doing
anything to prevent the continued operation of the networks, but not being
there to repair problems when they did go wrong (and whilst away from
work, using the time to stage mass protests...).
