Adobe Sues to Resolve Dispute Over Use of Two Font Sets

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES 

SAN JOSE -- Adobe Systems Inc. filed suit in U.S. District Court to
resolve a contractual dispute over whether it has the right to let its
customers embed fonts belonging to International Typeface Corp. in
electronic documents.

The software company said Tuesday that it is also filing an arbitration
proceeding in London seeking affirmation of the same contractual rights
with respect to Agfa Monotype fonts.

Adobe also asked the court to declare that its Acrobat product doesn't
violate certain provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act as
claimed by International Copyright and Agfa Monotype, both of which are
units of Belgian imaging company Agfa-Gevaert N.V.
