I also have often heard that the _Mass in B minor_ is the greatest
piece of music ever written. A Google search shows that this
description is very common:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=b+minor+mass+greatest

I'm hoping to go hear this. This mass has been a favorite of mine for
a long time.

My father has a recording of it on LP, which occupies six sides (three
LPs) and had a huge booklet of liner notes, including the full text in
four languages, an essay in three languages, and a reproduction of
part of the score. They don't make 'em like they used to.

Pre-Concert Lecture on Sunday at 6:30 PM
St Ignatius Catholic Church, Fulton & Parker, San Francisco

Often called the greatest music ever written, the Mass in b minor is the brilliant end-of-life compilation of Bach’s vast expertise in choral composition. With its highly contrasting extremes of form, ensemble and mood, this musical monument is also a magnificent summation of the North German baroque style. Director David Babbitt brings a lifetime of immersion in this rich tradition to every performance of this, the Bach Choir’s most popular repertory work. Join us with Soprano Jennifer Ellis, Alto Miriam Abramowitsch, Tenor Daniel Hutchings, Bass Jeffrey Fields and the world-class SFBC Baroque Orchestra as we explore an exhilarating and ever-revealing masterpiece.
