THE IMPACT OF COUNTERCULTURE
Defying authority has been a powerful force throughout history, from
Haight-Ashbury in the sixties, to punk rock in the late seventies and the
techno-cultures of the twenty-first century. Sharing beliefs in
anti-authoritarianism and social change, counterculture has informed
mainstream politics, art and technology. In an age of corporate
cool-hunting, target-marketed faux rebellion, and cultural conservativism,
is counterculture as strong as ever?
