For those who don't know, I'm planning to participate in the Bike for
Breath fundraiser on July 14. I might send a subsequent note asking if
people want to sponsor me in that event, but I'm sending this note to
remind people that it exists and see if anyone would like to
participate. I've already been training for about three weeks by
routinely riding up large hills, and that's working out really well --
it keeps getting easier and easier for me to climb the biggest hills in
San Francisco. I've pledged to ride the longest of the four available
Bike for Breath routes -- 100 kilometers, or a little over twice the
length of the longest bike ride I've ever taken so far. If anyone's
interested in participating, you can sign up, and you can choose to ride
100 km with me or opt for a shorter route, as short as 16 km (10 mi).

This is my first time ever doing a sports-related fundraising event and
I'd be very glad to have other people join in. If you sign up, you must
pay an entry fee, and you are invited but not required to fundraise for
Breathe California (where my friend Michelle works). Here is the
official e-mail announcement:

*A great day of biking and doing something good!*

*Saturday, July 14th* marks Breathe California's 16th annual Bike for Breath
fundraiser. Participants can choose between 4 beautiful bike routes ranging
from 10 to 62 miles through the peninsula. As an individual or as part of a
team, you can raise money for important local programs that benefit lung
health.

*About Breathe California: * Since 1908, Breathe
California<http://www.ggbreathe.org/>and its predecessors have worked
to reduce the impact of lung disease
through prevention, education, advocacy and patient services. For over 100
years we have been lung health champions, eradicating tuberculosis, fighting
the tobacco industry, advocating on behalf of those with lung disease,
including children and adults with asthma, and ensuring that you and your
children can breathe clean, healthy air.

For every dollar pledged to a Bike for Breath 2007 participant, 72¢
enables Breathe
California <http://www.ggbreathe.org/> to continue this important work in
our community. We are locally governed and donations are used in the local
community to provide services to promote lung health and clean air. We also
continue to support research to find cures for lung disease.
