black-and-white television, left a cigarette burning in an ashtray. He
left the room and returned only when someone noticed flames in said room.
He tried to put the fire out with a blanket but was overcome -- a German
diplomat rescued him and Kurt's in the hospital recovering from burns.

Where on earth does one find a b&w tv these days?
