There's a common misconception that gb is going to be some sort of general
scripting system for GNOME. It's not. It's going to run in a sandbox, in
Gnumeric, so those few Excel sheets that use embedded VB to do advanced
calculations stuff can be used in Gnumeric. No local disk access, etc.

As for general scriptability, well, in an ideal Bonobo world, you can talk to
any component using any scripting language that has CORBA bindings (and
preferably Bonobo convenience functionality), and do whatever you can in the
GUI. Now, most GNOME software can't be used like this yet, but there's a big
push to componentize stuff. Leading the way at the moment are Gnumeric,
Nautilus and Evolution.

Oh, and Star/Open Office is going to be all Bonobo components, and thus
generically scriptable as well.
