begin Paul J Collins quotation:

> All good points, but I don't believe I have made a single statement
> advocating the use of Outlook.

You possibly have not gotten the piece's point.

> Any given ten-minute chunk of time that I spend using Outlook tends to
> give the air a slightly blue tinge.

Funny how people rationalise these things. Suppose you inverted the
two: Speak kindly rather than disparagingly, but put no effort or
creativity into propping up pernicious, proprietary software. Make
sure that management understands the full cost of "standardising" on
Exchange/Outlook, rather than your propping it up, personally.

> Given the way the company (and this is a *very* big company) has built
> up its IS infrastructure, Outlook is pretty much unavoidable.

> And being a contractor, I have zero input into IS policy anyway.

I remember one of the very nicest things about being a WAN/LAN
consultant: When a customer asks you to help him implement something
stupid, you can say "no". You select your customers every bit as much
as they select you.
