Apologies for this not being in standard seth-trips fmt, but I figure that
the squidlist standard format was good enough.

I'm contemplating going on thursday- anyone wanna come with? I can give
rides from the south bay up...

Adbusters' Kalle Lasn Breaks the Media Trance

6-8pm

----> Event Description <-----------------------------------------------

Kalle Lasn, founder and editor-in-chief of Adbusters Magazine argues
that America is no longer a country, but a multitrillion-dollar brand.
He
has championed anti-commerce events such as Buy Nothing Day and
TV Turnoff Week as part of his continued efforts to make us aware of
corporate influence in our daily lives. Lasn asks us to consider who is
shaping the way we think and encourages us to consider the link
between advertising, overconsumption and problems ranging from
deforestation to global warming.

Together with creative director Mike Simmons he will present slide
and video examples of culture jamming in action and discuss new
kinds of meaning that emerge when commercial pretensions are
stripped away. The event is co-presented by the San Francisco
chapters of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Industrial
Design Society of America and the San Francisco Museum of Modern
Art Architecture + Design Forum.
